How can we help?

Guides and tips for Readers, Authors, and Editors on TxtPub.

  • About

    The basics, and why TxtPub.

    • Why TxtPub

TxtPub is built and operates just differently. I started this platform, really for myself. As an avid reader for the past two decades. I've used sites that have come and gone, and countless others, but none of them have the features I want. Also, as a supporter of some of my favorite authors on other platforms, such as Patreon. I have seen and felt many of the struggles these authors go through in writing and sharing. (not to mention the pain it causes me, the reader!) How many good authors have been demonized because they posted something Patreon didn’t find whitewashed and fit for the general masses?

And selfishly just as bad/worse, I cannot count the times I've had to, as the reader, click messed-up links to PDFs, join Discord communities that are a true nightmare to navigate and use for reading, had to click random sites used to “post the article”, shared Google Drive documents, etc., just to read an article. To then have the links break the next day when I’m halfway through, etc., etc., etc.!

So I finally decided it was time to make a site that I feel is needed, a bit easier to use, and has some of the features that make sense while protecting our epic authors, the articles we want, and us readers.

Note: TxtPub operates as the general-audience front of a broader publishing ecosystem. We build purpose-driven, strictly isolated environments so authors can monetize freely and readers only see the content they expect to see.

    • Privacy first!

Unlike most websites today, TxtPub prioritizes privacy and respects human data. TxtPub does not collect any personal data or analytics, and will never save or sell it; we do not even collect it! Also read "My profile name" under the reader tab above.

    • Fuck intrusive web Ads!

At TxtPub, we will never flood the site with ads. Ads would violate our privacy guidelines and frustrate users with the endless, pointless distractions that plague most sites today.

    • How does TxtPub stay online if we don’t collect/sell personal data and don’t allow endless random ads?

TxtPub has a “supporter badge” (with some extra perks) for those who find value and want to support the site and keep it alive. More details in the supporter badge tab.

    • Transparency, safety, and Cookies.

TxtPub uses a mini-cookie to save your session ID (your encrypted site key). We do this in your browser rather than keeping it on our server for a few reasons, including your data and privacy. The cookie does not contain any tracking, analytics, or other data; it's simply your login/site key. (You can read more about our cookie policy in the Site Terms & Legal page.) Also, feel free to inspect your cookie using your browser's built-in cookie inspector!

    • No: real name, credit card number, location, etc. Why/How?!

TxtPub doesn't want to know or care about these details. But we do care about paying our servers, bandwidth, etc., so we handle this by using a few cool tricks. For one, we don’t have any way to store, accept, run, or use credit cards. This eliminates the required data (name, location, card, etc.). We do this by sending you to Stripe.com for the payment. When we do this, we also send an encrypted random code to Stripe. After your payment on Stripe.com, they send a simple message back (no name, no card, no locations): just a paid/unpaid and the encrypted code we sent before. Then, TxtPub does the math on that security code and says, "Ah, user (1234) paid. Here’s your ink.”

    • Ink? Ink.

We use Ink to give the support badge and spotlights in TxtPub, rather than in direct currency. This allows us to never use/save any personal information. (While it does take a lot more math and computing, it's more fun to use Ink and a lot more private!)

      • Ink can only be used to directly support TxtPub.(help pay the website bills.)
      • Or to spotlight an author. and/or to promote an article within TxtPub.(These spotlight/promos cost for several reasons. You can read the details under the author tab above.)
Ink cannot be used to pay authors, purchase an article, or buy an access code. Ink cannot be shared, traded, or redeemed for "cash".

See more about Ink on the terms and legal page found here or the Ink purchase agreement found on the Home page and in your wallet.

Ink is Global: Ink is a platform-wide utility credit for the TxtPub ecosystem. Your wallet and balance are tied seamlessly to your unified account.

    • Profile badges.?!.

Badges are shown on your public profile page and on your home screen. While badges are cosmetic, they do have some other benefits.

      • Supporter Badge: This badge comes with lots of perks and is how TxtPub stays alive.
This badge lasts for a month and is a paid badge, $4.98 or 500 INK. Available in your wallet.
      • Founder Badge: This badge is for the first 200 people who sign up on TxtPub.
Perks include weighted points and extra entries into the spotlights/promos, and more coming soon. This badge is permanent.
      • Editor Badge: This badge shows you are an editor and allows authors to share their works pre-published with you.
This badge is turned on and off by you in "My Settings"
      • Doc Badge: In honor of the late DocCIS, a great friend, mentor, and author. (DocCIS is a major reason this platform exists!)
This badge can only be gotten by being an avid fan of DocCIS (R.I.P.) and/or contacting TxtPub staff. This badge is permanent.
      • MOD badge This badge is for TxtPub moderators
      • More badges may be made, and more perks will be added to the current ones as time goes on.
  • Supporter Badge

Your support helps cover essential costs for servers, storage, and bandwidth and comes with some extra perks!

    Support Badge

The supporter badge offers valuable perks beyond simply supporting TxtPub.

    • Why a support badge?

From the start, I was determined not to sell your data or force anyone to endure intrusive ads. I want authors to post freely and keep every penny they earn (without paying a percentage or fees). Paid-only options never felt right because they leave too many people excluded. And donations just felt wrong. That’s why the Supporter Badge stands out: it empowers you to fuel a community you enjoy while you receive a few extras in return. If you value TxtPub, your support truly sustains and shapes it.

    • Cost of support badge.

I set out to make the Supporter Badge affordable because I want everyone to have the chance to join and enjoy extra benefits. Supporting should be simple—jump in when you can, pause whenever needed. After thoughtful discussion about what would work best for everyone—from pay-what-you-want to one-time payments—we chose a fair, accessible fixed cost. This choice keeps it straightforward and welcoming for all who want to strengthen our community.

      Support Badge is $4.98 / 500 Ink
The cost of the supporter badge also covers supporter perks such as storage/bandwidth for profile photos and audio, AI features that use a lot of GPU/RAM. etc.

There are two ways to get your supporter badge: a monthly subscription (cancel anytime) or a one-time purchase of Ink, which you can use to get your support badge.

    • Support badge perks!?

Besides keeping TxtPub alive as a support badge holder, you get all of the following: (with more coming soon.)

      Reader perks -

TxtPub is designed to make reading clean, easy, and fun.

Sign in to enjoy these features: it's 100% free!

    • TxtPub remembers where I left off!

Yes! Every time you scroll through a story, TxtPub automatically saves your Reading Progress to your account. You can close your browser on your desktop and pick up at the exact same paragraph on your phone later.

Tip: Look in the "Continue Reading" and click the resume button on any story you've started reading in your library.

Note: if you are not logged in this doesn't work well.
    • Reading: text size and color.

When you are reading an article look for the small setting button at the bottom center of your screen.
This will allow you to change your text size and switch between light/dark modes.
Note: if you are logged in your choices will become you default! And if you are not logged in TxtPub will try to remember

    • My Library.

Your library is a private area and is divided into sections:

      • Saved: For stories you want to read later.
      • Favorites: For the works you love and want to remember.

Click the or icons on any story overview to add it to your library collection.

Note: your library also has some other usefull automatic sections:

      • Continue Reading: any article you are currently reading.
      • Finished Stories: articles you finished.
      • Purchased Content: any articls you used a access code on live here, for alwayas!
Under my network, you can also see the people you follow and any Active Memberships you are part of.

Note: if you are not logged in there is no library.
    • Epubs and PDFs.

Simply click the respective button on the articles overview page to download it.
Note: if the article is part of an author membership or a paid article, you won't be able to download it unless you are part of their membership or paid for it.
Check out below “how to Kindle” for how to get epub to your Kindle.

Downloading articles is a supporter-only perk.

    • How to Kindle.

Yes, TxtPub makes available each article as both a PDF and an EPUB for offline use (see above EPUBs and PDFs for more details)
Amazon makes this a little more complex than other readers, but here are several ways to get an article to your Kindle.

Methods for Uploading EPUB to Kindle:

      Send to Kindle Website:

      • Go to the Send to Kindle website.
      • Sign in with your Amazon account.
      • Drag and drop your EPUB file, or click "Add your files".
      • Ensure "Add to your library" is enabled, then click "Send".

      Send to Kindle by Email:

      • Find your unique Kindle email address under "Manage Content and Devices" > "Preferences" > "Personal Document Settings" on Amazon.
      • Ensure your personal email address is in the "Approved Personal Document E-mail List".
      • Attach the EPUB file to an email and send it to your Kindle email address.

      Using the Kindle App (iOS/Android):

      • Download the EPUB file to your phone.
      • Select the file and choose the Kindle app via the share option.

      USB Cable Transfer (No Sync):

      • Connect your Kindle to a computer via USB.
      • Note: EPUB files can struggle to work via USB; you may need to convert them to MOBI or AZW3 first using software like Calibre.

      Important Notes:
Files may take a few minutes to appear.
Ensure the email is sent from the approved email address associated with your Amazon account.

    • Audio!

TxtPub plans to convert each article to AI audio. Currently, this is a slower process, so please give us up to a few days for new articles to be converted to audio.

AI audio is a supporter-only perk.

If this becomes a popular feature, we will upgrade the GPU (AI-server), letting us use better AI to allow for much better voices and reading!

This is a CPU/GPU tasking process, and afterward it becomes a storage and bandwidth burden (which is why this is a supporter-only perk).

As of now, there are two reading voices, a feminine and a masculine one. (We would like to add a few more options, including a neutral voice!)

All users can get a short preview of the voices/article, while TxtPub supporters get the full article in audio and have the ability to download it for offline use. Audio can also be slowed down or sped up while listening.

Note: articles that the author locks behind memberships or single purchases will also require using the author access code to listen/download the audio.

    • My Wallet.

Your wallet holds your Ink and is also the place you can reload Ink. (The wallet can only be used to support the platform and cannot be used with/for other site users or authors). As a reading member of TxtPub, there is a support badge you can get. This helps cover the servers' costs and operating expenses, and comes with some extra perks. (See the “Support badge” tab above for details.)
Authors also check out the wallet in the author tab above or learn more in the “Support badge” tab above.

The Support Badge keeps TxtPub online and comes with some extra perks!

There are two ways to get the support badge: a $4.98 monthly subscription (cancellable at any time). Or a single month at a time is 500 Ink (requires buying Ink through your wallet.)

    • Memberships.?.

Memberships in a nutshell. Authors more membership details under the author tab above
TxtPub offers “author memberships”. This is a way for authors to control, monetize, and share their works while protecting and benefiting both the authors and readers. TxtPub does not take a commission, charge, or have any involvement with the authors' memberships. (except for “enforcing” their settings.)

Authors create and manage their own memberships and access codes. No money is ever used on TxtPub.
Think of "access codes" as a clean, easy, anonymous way to grant/control access.

you must be logged in to join to use memberships

    • Purchased articles.?.

Purchasing an article in a nutshell. Authors for more details look under the author tab above. “Purchasing” an article on TxtPub is fully managed and set by the respective author. TxtPub does not take a commission, charge, or have any involvement with the authors' memberships. (except for “enforcing” their settings.) Purchasing an article is as simple as typing in the right “access code” made and shared by the author.
A side note: purchased articles stay in your library even if the author decides later to unpublish or stop writing.

Authors create and manage their own purchased articles and access codes. No money is ever used on TxtPub.
Think of "access codes" as a clean, easy, anonymous way to grant/control access.

      Only for logged in members

    • Access codes?!

Since TxtPub is all about privacy, user safety, and usability, we do not allow money or any payments on the site. So we use access codes as an alternative, which are pretty straightforward. The respective authors create and manage their own access codes used to gain access to individual membership levels or single-purchased articles. TxtPub does not take a commission, charge, or have any involvement with the authors' access codes. (except for “enforcing” their settings.) Authors can share their different access codes however they want to whoever they want.

Authors create and manage their own access codes. No money is ever used on TxtPub.
Think of "access codes" as a clean, easy, anonymous way to grant/control access. Authors learn more about "access codes" under the author tab

only logged in users can use access codes

    • Login/Sign up email.

You can use almost any email address to sign up for TxtPub. Your email will not be shared publicly on TxtPub. Please note that the email you sign up with cannot be changed. (You will have to create a new account with another email if you want to use another email.)

If you support an author on Patreon, remember to use the same email you use to log in to Patreon. This allows your author to auto-sync works and membership levels.
This makes it a lot easier for the author, but it also guarantees instant access for you (instead of waiting for the author to manually confirm you)

Note: if you join an authors membership that author will be able to see your email

    • My profile name.

TxtPub will try to use your username as the start of your email address. However, if you want to change it, we highly recommend it.Changing your default username enhances your privacy.

To change your username anytime, log in:

      • click the explore more dropdown in the menu.
      • Look below and click My Settings.
      • in the "My Settings" page: Type your new username (and while you are there, feel free to update your public profile bio).
      • Dont forget to click the "Save Profile Changes" button.
    • Profile Photo & Colors.

Your public profile picture and color can be added and changed anytime in My Settings, under the Explore & more button in the menu.

Profile color and photo are perks of the site support badge.

Authors also see “Colors” in the "author" tab above for more details.

    • Search (explore) Catigory/Tags.

      Explore (search)

Both logged-in/out users can use the explore (search). There is a filter button on mobile or the same expanded filter for bigger screens.

      Catigory/Tag search

You can stack categories and tags or simply look for one.
Stacking or clicking multiple tags or categories will filter down to articles that have those same tags/categories in your search results. (Remove a category/tag from your search results by clicking the little x next to it. Or clear all using the clear button)

Note: you can also click a tag within any article overview to jump back to the “explore page” with that tag as your base search

Filter by Tags: TxtPub shows the "most used" tags as clickable chips, but don't forget you can use the "search tags" bar to find more tags to use in your article search.

Logged-in users also have access to a list of all tags currently on the platform. In “Home Feed,” top-right, next to the article title search bar, there is a “tag button.”
      PLEASE NOTE:
tags are made by authors when they publish an article.

      AI Semantic Search

Only logged-in badge supporter members can use this non-passive search (for now). The Semantic search is still in beta (like this whole site).
How it works: each article, once published, gets fully read and summarized by our “big AI.” (After the summary, our “big AI" is cleared.) TxtPub then saves this new small summary in a specialized vertical database, where we performs “math” on each letter and word. We then save that list of tokens in a special reference that our search AI reads. (We also do a bit more magic, but that's the generals.) This makes searching for context while keeping the article and author safe very fast and mostly accurate. (Remember it's still in beta.)

Doing a semantic search will give you a small list of articles with probability matches to your search parameters.
Remember this type of active search isn't a passive search, so general feelings, thoughts, etc., will work much better.

      Home Feed search

This search bar is for any logged-in user and is found on the top right on your Home Feed. This search bar searches article titles.

    • Author/People search.

Click the explore & more in your menu. Then click Find people.
Authors and editors read more about this in the editor tab above
Finding people is only available for logged-in users

    • Following Authors.

When you "Follow" an author/user, their newest releases and blog posts will appear directly in your Home Feed. You can manage your following list from your libary and "Follow" any author/user by visiting their profile page and clicking the "follow" button.
Authors/Readers cannot see who follows them.

Note: if you are not logged in there is no Following.
    • Promoted/Spotlight... Wait, WTF Ads?

How does one find a new interesting article? Yes, we can use a search, but it often “pigeonholes” us. How do authors get to new readers? While brainstorming these issues and more, the idea of spotlighting and/or promoting articles and/or authors kept coming up. So we came up with a clean, unintrusive, fair way to add this value for both the authors and us readers, we call it: promoted/spotlighted articles/authors.

TxtPub uses a custom weighted algorithm to add articles/authors into a kind of "lottery" which is then used to randomly share as promoted/spotlighted articles/authors

This system helps authors share with more readers and helps readers find new articles/authors. Authors who write many articles, have a high completion rate, or are supporters, etc., get put into this “lottery” for each bonus they have. All articles and authors start with one entry into this “lottery”. When an article is opened, TxtPub counts the available spaces (plus several more) for a “promoted/spotlight.” Then, just like the “lottery”, those spaces are filled. TxtPub then checks if the article/author picked is the same as the current article/author, and if it is, that “lottery” pick is skipped.
Now remember, if an article has 20 entries into the “lottery”, it has a higher chance of getting picked (maybe even more than once). Authors can also use Ink to increase their chances by getting more entries into the “lottery”. But in the end, it's still like a “lottery”: just because an article has 20 entries into the “lottery” doesn’t mean it will be picked over one with 1 “lottery” entry.

TxtPub supporters do not have these promoted/spotlight articles within their reading screen.

Authors who are TxtPub supporters also keep all other promoted articles out of their article feeds.
Authors read more about promoting/spotlights and the "walled garden" effect in the author tab above

Promoted/Spotlights are used throughout TxtPub from the explore page to inside articles' text.

    • Article Reviews.

Here at TxtPub, we can't stand the normal 5-star rating system, and the 1~10 is worse. Having a thumbs-up/down is better, but it doesn’t leave open the possibility that it wasn't bad but isn't amazing, so we went with a simple 3-face rating. Only logged-in users can post a review

      Note:
TxtPub will not show reviews on the article highlights or quick overviews; we feel that it detracts or inflates the article before you have a chance to even decide. (Article reviews are on the article overview page only.)

Logged-in users can post a review to any article. It's easy and helps give feedback to the author. When you are on the article overview page, scroll down to the Reader Reviews and write a review when you are ready. Simply click one of the icons (smile, neutral, frown) to save your review.

You can only post one review per article. If you write a second review on the same article, the old review will be replaced.

    • Flag/Report an article.

On the article overview page, next to the article tags, there is a flag button. Anyone can flag a post.
TxtPub uses a weighted algorithm to flag articles. (We take all flags seriously.)

    • Site Feedback?

Any logged-in member can click the Site Feedback button located at the bottom of your menu.

“Site Feedback” is NOT to flag an article.
(Use the “flag” button on the article overview page to flag individual articles.)

Use “Site Feedback” to send your thoughts, ideas, site issues, issues with Ink, and more to TxtPub.

  • The Author Suite

Tools to help you publish, promote, and protect your creative work.

    • The "Walled Garden" Effect.

TxtPub allows you to create exclusive spaces for your fans.
      A Support Badge Perk:

      • Automatically remove all other article promotions/spotlights from your articles. This means all visitors reading your work will not only have a clean reading experience, but they will also NOT see other articles (promotions/spotlights) within your work, keeping them focused on your work.
      • Automatically display a large, colorful banner with your other work in the reader.
Note: The color will be your profile color

    • Spending "Ink" for Promotions.

Ink is our internal utility credit. You can use Ink to:

      • Promote an Article: Feature your story in the "Promoted" slots across the site.
      • Promote Yourself: Feature your author profile on the sidebar of popular stories.

You can set your own "Per Click" price for Ink to compete for the best visibility.

    • Access Codes.

TxtPub does not allow or accept trade of real-world currency. Instead, we have crafted an access code system. You can create custom access codes within your dashboard (for memberships or individual articles). When a reader redeems that code, they get access to that specific work or membership level, regardless of its monetary price.

Access codes let you charge readers on thousands of websites while you publish your work on TxtPub, creating a buffer between you and payment providers. And a clean, safe, private publishing area.

A couple of real-world examples include.
      A) You can use a simple PayPal/Square/Stripe/CashApp, etc. payment and just include the access code you created in your dashboard for that item in the thank you or confirmation of that payment. (Now the reader can type that access code in and access the article/membership instantly.)
      B) Sites like Patreon/Ko-fi, etc. You can simply add the membership-level equivalent access code on the site as a membership post, and now your readers can use it to access your works here. Note: As an author, the “supporter badge” allows for automatic syncing between your Patreon members and membership levels automatically! Although we still recommend sharing an access code in your equivalent membership levels in case the reader uses a different email address, it allows them instant access vs waiting for you to manually add them, and saves you the work.

Access codes can be anything you want. We recommend something easy to type and remember, but that's up to you. You can see who used what access code, create unlimited access codes, and delete access codes. When you create an access code, you can set it to expire from 1 month to never.

You could make two different access codes for the same article or membership and use one on site X and the other via payment provider X, allowing you to easily monitor which one has more active users, etc. OR you could use the same one across several sites.

Creating access codes is done in the “Monetization & Members” screen, which you can access in your author “Dashboard” by clicking the “Monetization” button.

    • Article types.

You can make several types of articles on TxtPub

Story An article in this type is a standalone story and the most commonly used type.

Book An article in this type is a collection of chapters or stories.
Note: to add a new chapter, click add new chapter. Each chapter has its own categories, tags, reviews, etc., under the main book.

Interactive or non-linear articles are standalone choice-based articles.
Non-linear articles do not have chapters and cannot be books or shared editors, but have "nodes" and choices.

Blog A blog post is a paragraph or two, such as an update, idea, or question.

You can learn more about each article type below. NOTE: all article types can be part of a membership, and anything that isn't a blog post can be a perched article.

      All Articles

      • Add the article title.
      • Make sure to add your article summary, as this is important to help readers decide if they want to read your article. Article summary is NOT searchable but is on your article overview and one of the first things readers will see
      • Add an article cover photo! Adding an article cover photo isn't required, and TxtPub will use a default one if you don't. However, taking the time to add a cover photo really helps the general article and feel of your work.
Note:In the summary page of creating an article, there are some copyright-free ideas and links to help get/create quick, simple article covers if needed.
      • Select your categories. Each article has two categories: a main category and a subcategory. categories are searchable
      • Pick and add tags to your article. You can and should add many tags that are related to your article. Click the Manage Tags button. When adding tags, the first few you see are the most commonly used/or recently used tags, but they are searchable, so please search for tags that match your article! If there isn't a tag you need, simply create it, and it will be added to the tags for all authors.

Adding your written work for stories, books, and chapters, you can type into the text box directly and use Markdown (see below for more about Markdown) or upload a document directly.
Uploading a document might take a fraction of a moment please wait, TxtPub will print it for easy editing in the text box.

      Story Article type

These are the standalone articles. Or works that are loosely connected.
This is the most common, and if you are unsure, use this style article.

      Book Article type

Adding a book is quick and simple, which allows you to add chapters to it. Please do NOT use books for standalone articles, as it gives the readers a bad experience.

NOTE: do NOT add the chapters right now. When creating a book on part 3 workspace instead of typing or uploading your book here, use this to add your preface, forward, etc.
You will add chapters after publishing the book cover and intro

      Book Chapters

Adding a book chapter is exactly the same as adding a “story article” (above), except that you click Choose Book... on step 1 type and select the book you wish to add this new chapter to.

      Interactive or non-liniar articles

These use “nodes”. A node is like a mini chapter. Each node can be linked to another node via another node.
There is an active list of nodes on a sidebar for easy management

Starting a new interactive article, please don’t spend time adding nodes until you save the article as a draft on step 6. This is due to how nodes are created and saved; creating the “article” first is a must.

Once you have saved the draft, click manage if you are back in the dashboard and start typing
      always start with the “start_node”.
You can add new nodes by clicking the Add Passage.. Don’t forget to add a name for your node.
Open and go to already made nodes; just click them.

To link a node, simply type [[choise text|slug]]. The choice text is the reader's choice, and the slub is the name of the node you want to link to.

      Example of node links

      start_node
Tiffany was sitting in her room, looking out the window, when she saw her mom's car pull into the driveway.
      [[Waive at mommy|waive]] [[Roll eyes|eyes]]
TxtPub will automatically make these two choices into links to the corresponding nodes. (And if you are a TxtPub supporter, they will also be in your profile colors.)
      The waive node; waive
Tiffany smiles and waives at her mommy. She giggles and jumps off her bed.
[[Runs downstairs|downstaires]] [[Checks herself in the mirror|Look]]
      The Roll Eyes node; eyes
Tiffany rolls her eyes, ugh, why is mommy home so early? She groans as she gets off the bed.
[[closes window|window]] [[Checks herself in the mirror|Look]]

In this example, you can see how the reader's choice is inside a [[brackets]] and the slug “link” to the node is |here also inside the brackets.
You can link to multiple nodes or the same node from several other nodes.

      Blog Posts/Article type

This type of article is really intended for short forms like updating, news, questions, etc.

    • Memberships.

You can create custom membership levels, or, as a TxtPub supporter, use the auto-sync to create them.
For each membership level, you can create custom access codes (learn more about access codes above), manually add readers, or use the patron auto-sync feature.
When creating a membership, you can add a brief description of the level, the membership price, and a name. Note: the price you set is for information only; you will need to use another site to collect payment.

In your memberships, you can set an “auto downgrade” of individual articles, meaning you can put an article in your top membership and set it to drop down to your lower membership levels after a set time. You can also publish an article to a membership and have it go free/public after a set time.

Note: you can also include an article that's in a membership as a paid article, meaning you can allow specific articles to be included in your memberships, but also allow them to be individually sold.
Memberships, articles, and readers can be managed anytime in the monetization screen.

      more on memberships coming soon

    • Sell an article or purchased article.

You can add any article type (except blog posts), including articles published to a membership.
When “selling” an article for purchase, you can add the cost of the article (remember, on TxtPub, you cannot take payments, but you can use a host of other sites; see more above under access codes).

    • PDFs and EPUBs..

      Which Articles
All articles (except non-linear articles and blog posts). TxtPub always includes the cover photo and your profile name, including a copyright for you.
NOTE: any article that is published in a membership or as a purchased article is only available to download as a PDF/EPUB with an access code.

      Why Auto-Create PDFs/EPUBs
Many readers enjoy reading on older or non-browser e-ink readers such as the Amazon Kindle. Giving readers an easy, safe, and private way to do this while always keeping you, the author, in mind is the goal for TxtPub.

Who Can Use The Offline PDF/EPUBs
Any badge supporter can use this feature. (Remember, if your article is part of a membership or a purchased article, even supporters will be require to use an access code from you to download.

Perhaps in the future, if non-linear articles are popular. TxtPub will add a simple offline interface.

    • Audiobooks.

TxtPub tries to have an AI reader read each article in both masculine and feminine voices. TxtPub plans to add a few more readers and voices over time. Currently, our AI reader is a bit basic, but as time goes on, we might get better AI voices and readers.
TxtPub has even been experimenting with letting authors pick specific readers for different roles, which could lead to some pretty creative and fun audiobooks.

The audiobook feature is only available for TxtPub supporters, as it requires much more computing power, energy, and time to produce and host.

TxtPub will try to convert all articles (excluding non-linear and blog articles)
NOTE: If your article is part of a membership or a paid (purchased), it requires an access code provided by you to listen to.

Growth of the AI audiobooks is based on reader usage

    • Analytics!

TxtPub offers several ways to view analytics across your entire published portfolio.

      • On your author Dashboard, click the Analytics button to view your full analytics page.

TxtPub does not publicly display “click counts”. Instead, TxtPub shows the number of full reads or listens

In your analytics page, you can see the following.

      • Total Interactions
        Views, Reads, Plays, & Clicks

      • And More

TxtPub values privacy. We built our own analytics tool rather than relying on outsourced solutions.
For example, how the location of readers is collected, stored, and displayed on your analytics page. TxtPub does it privacy-first, then user ease.
Most websites use pre-built analytics tools like Google Analytics, which track and display extensive user data. These tools collect your IP address, send it to off-site databases, match it to IPs or ISPs, and display detailed location data, often in real time. This information is shared with multiple companies and stored, exposing your location and site information to others.
The TxtPub way We regularly download a country IP list, so we never store or share visitor IP addresses. As readers enter TxtPub, our server matches the country code from their IP to our list, then adds that code to your article data. No IP addresses or identities are saved or shared. Our analytics display the top five country codes on your analytics page, without linking them to individuals.

      more included analytics:
Article Starts, Cover Views, Article Completions, Content Engagement, Business Metrics, Paid Promotion ROI, Leaderboards, Top Performing Works, Highest Rated, Highest Abandonment, and More!

    • Editor and Editing.

      working with editors

Once you have a partnered editor, simply select their profile name before saving your draft. The editor will receive a notification and access to your article. When they finish editing, the article's status will change to indicate it's ready for review.

All additions the editor makes will be in green, and all removals will be in red. You can quickly and easily see what's been modified and approve, edit, or deny it.
You can do this process as many times as you'd like.

When the editor submits the edits back to you, they lose access to the article unless you re-share.

The editor can also see the title, tags, categories, and summary of the article, but cannot change them. This provides a helpful guide for editing.

      Finding and getting an editor

You can use the Find People in the logged-in menu under Explore and More. Here you can click Editor Directory to see available editors, or search for a specific editor by profile name or email address.
NOTE: You can also search by the editor's preferred editing tags.
You can also see tags the editor does not want to edit to save you both time.
Once you find the editor, simply click their Profile read their bio. If you decide to try and work with them, click the Editor Info to see all the tags the editor prefers and will not work with. If you feel it's a good match, simply click the Request Collab button. The editor will be notified, and if they accept, you will both receive a status change and see them in your dashboard.
NOTE: When you request a collab with an editor, they will be able to see your email address (We found it confusing if they cannot see that, as several authors may have the same profile name.) Once they accept or reject the collab, your email is hidden again.
You can have several editors as collaborators.

      Editor credit

If you accept an edited article, the editor's profile name will be included in the overview page for the article as edited, and all PDFs/EPUBs will also include them as an editor.

      Editor Notes

TxtPub has a simple note area for editors and authors to share private notes about the article, editing, and more.

You can both share ideas, goals, and more in the editor notes. You can also check, deny, and hold notes.

      More on editing and editors.

You cannot share a non-linear/interactive article perhaps if this is a heavily requested feature, TxtPub will add it in later
Blog posts cannot/should not be shared.
Editor colabs cannot be initiated from the editor; it has to start with the author.

      Self editing.

You can always edit a saved draft through your author dashboard. (dont forget to save the draft after editing.)
To edit a published article Go to the article overview, by clicking the Manage button and then clicking the large Edit button. (dont forget to click update changed button to save changed.

    • AI Semantic Search

Currently, TxtPub, on publication of your article, feeds it to an uncensored LLM (Large Language Model). The LLM reads the article and gives a short summary. We save that summary in a specialized vector BoltDB. TxtPub then deletes the article from the LLM memory.

When someone searches the AI Semantic Search based on feelings, ideas, etc., we use another small, fast, local, uncensored AI to search the AI summaries. AI Semantic Search is a TxtPub supporter perk, as it does cost resources to run.

Authors who are TxtPub supporters can edit this summary at any time. Please remember it's not a typical search, so if you do edit it, keep that in mind.

    • Categories and Tags.

      Categories

TxtPub has a pre-configured category list; these categories are set by TxtPub You can use the “Site Feedback” to request new categories

When publishing any article, you are required to add a main and sub category.

      Tags

Tags are made and added to TxtPub by authors, and once a new tag is made, any author can use it. You can and should add lots of tags to your articles. This allows readers to find your work! It also helps readers who do not like a specific tag to invest time and then leave a bad review, etc.

When adding tags to your article use the manage tags button. If on search the tag isn't made, simply click create tag to add it to your article.

Tags are also used in public profiles. This allows you to display tags you enjoy and those you don’t. Editors also use tags in their profile to display what they will and won't edit

Both tags and categories are required to publish an article

NOTE: Categories and Tags are searchable for the articles, and one of the main ways readers will find your work.

    • Quick share.

We've made sharing easy and fun! Look for the quick share link button next to each article on your dashboard. With just one click, you'll copy the article's URL, ready to share with friends on social media or other sites. There's also a quick share link button on your public profile, so you and your readers can effortlessly share it wherever you'd like.

    • Public Profile

Don’t forget to change your profile name to your author name.
After logging in, click Explore and More then click My Settings
While you are here, also add a profile picture and pick a profile color.
Profile picture and color are supporter perks. Adding a profile picture and color is key to “branding” and helps readers know it's you. Your profile color is also used in your articles, promos/spotlights, and even used in the text size and background colors setting button.
Make sure to add your bio
adding a bio helps readers connect and learn more about you and your work. It is also a good place to link your payment sites and socials.
Lastly dont forget to add your liked and disliked tags.

    • Markdown.

You can use Markdown in your articles. TxtPub provides a Markdown bar in the text field and editors for common commands. For more on Markdown syntax, search online or visit the official syntax site, HERE

    • Photos in your Article.

Since TxtPub accepts Markdown (see above), you can easily add images to your articles.

TxtPub does not host any images (besides your profile picture).
This is due to privacy and legality reasons… After all, TxtPub is a text-based site, not Tumblr.
But you can self-host or use a plethora of other image hosting services in conjunction with TxtPub in your articles.

To add images to your articles, use the markdown syntax of:
      ![Name of image](www.your-url-to-your-image.png)

TxtPub recommends the following ways to host and use your images:

    • More coming soon.

      Will update this shortly

  • Collaboration Tools

How to work with authors to polish their drafts.

    • The Editor Queue

Your Editor Queue is where you manage incoming partnership requests. You can accept or decline requests from authors who want to work with you. And manage all article drafts.

    • The Collaborative Workspace

Once a partnership is active, you can open an author's draft in the Workspace. Any changes you save are instantly visible to the author. Once you are done, click "Finish Editing" to notify the author that the draft is ready for review.

Note: You will have access to the draft until you send it back to the author. The author can resend it to you on review for another round of editing.

    • Accepting an author's collaboration.

In your editor queue, you will see any new author requests and can accept or deny them. (Note: the author will not know if you deny the request on their end.) If you accept the request, the author will receive an editor has accepted collaboration message with your profile name. Each time the author saves a draft, they can share it with any editor they collaborate with.
Note: Authors cannot remove an active collaborated editor from their end.

When you receive a request from an author, you will see their email and profile name.
We made this choice because during testing we found that profile names can be confusing, especially if you want to work with a specific author and another author requests with a similar name.
Once you accept the author as an “Active Partner,” just their profile name remains visible.
Authors cannot see your email address.

    • Become an editor on TxtPub

To become an editor, click the Explore and more in your menu, then click “My Settings”. Scroll down to the “Author & Editor Settings” section and select the editor checkbox.

To stop being an editor, simply unselect the editor checkbox.

Note: as of right now, TxtPub does not display a published list of available editors.

You will receive the Editor Badge, which is displayed on your profile, along with a button for authors to request a collaboration with you.

    • Editing.

In your editor workspace, you can edit the full text and view the summary, tags, categories, and more. Remember, you can use Markdown.
Every edit you make is marked for the author's easy view: removals are marked in red and additions are in green.

    • Editing notes with the author.

In your workspace, you can write the author notes and also see the author notes back.
